We next consider the legislative history of the parts of G. L. c. 186, § 15B, which are pertinent to the issue presented here, against the backdrop of the purpose of the security deposit provisions we have discussed. Section 15B has evolved from a simple prohibition against a security deposit of more than two month’s rent, St. 1969, c. 244, § 1, to its present elaborate form.
